How do I control my notifications?

Account → Notifications. Each kind of notification — a reply, a like, a mention, a direct message, a club decision, a new follower, announcements — can be switched on or off, and separately for in-app and push.

So you can keep direct messages pushing to your phone while turning likes down to nothing. Turning a category off stops it everywhere; it does not stop the thing happening, just the alert.
